Fragrance Oils for Perfume and Cosmetics
As well as wax melts and candles, our fragrance oils can be used in perfume and cosmetics, as long as you stay within the limits on each product's IFRA certificate. Every product page has an IFRA certificate showing the maximum percentage allowed for each type of product, so you can check before you make anything.
How to check the IFRA certificate
Look up the category that matches what you are making. The certificate shows the maximum percentage for that category.
- Category 4: fine fragrance, such as perfume
- Category 2: deodorants and antiperspirants
- Category 5A: body lotion
- Category 9: rinse off products such as soap and shower gel
- Category 12: candles and wax melts
Never use fragrance oil undiluted on the skin. Cosmetics, including perfume, need a safety assessment (CPSR) before you sell them in the UK.
Every scent comes as a 10g tester, so you can try it before buying more. Browse all fragrance oils.
Perfume and Cosmetics FAQs
Can fragrance oil be used for perfume?
Yes, if the IFRA certificate gives a category 4 limit. Stay at or below that percentage.
Is fragrance oil safe for skin?
Only when diluted within the IFRA limit for that product type. Do a patch test and never apply neat oil.
Do I need anything to sell homemade perfume or soap?
Yes, a cosmetic safety assessment, a responsible person and correct labelling under UK cosmetics rules.
